Brief History of our Fellowship

The Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism

History of Our Fellowship
Our congregation was accepted into the American Unitarian Association in the early 1950's and met initially in private homes. During the subsequent twenty years, membership grew slowly, with a constant turnover. A few stalwart individuals alway remained. The first minister was called in the late 1970's. After many years of meeting in rented facilities, in 1989 the Fellowship was able to purchase its own building on Foothill Boulevard in San Luis Obispo. In 1999 the congregation completed an expansion project which added a second story to the building. Following a two year interim ministry, during which time the Fellowship completed a nationwide search, the Reverend Helen Carroll was selected as the settled minister and came to San Luis Obispo in August of 2001. Now we are moving from our Foothill location and starting on a new chapter as a Fellowship. See directions.

The Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism are
-
The inherent worth and dignity of every person
-
Justice, equity and compassion in human relations
-
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations
-
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning
-
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large
-
The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all
-
