People's Kitchen

What Is People's Kitchen?

People's Kitchen is a group of volunteers who serve a hot, nutritious meal at 12 noon each day at the Prado Day Center in San Luis Obispo. The program's goal is to fee hungry and homeless individuals with special needs, the working poor and seniors with limited incomes. Currently, betwen 80 and 150 clients come for the daily meal. If fewer people attend, seconds are served.

How Can You Help?

Members of the UUFSLOC can help in a number of ways. We are always looking for volunteers to donate their time, their cooking skills or their money to this great cause.

* Cook: We always need help preparing the meals for our clients. We provide the cooking pans, the menu and the suggested recipes. There are no cooking facilities at the Prado Day Center, so all food must be hot and ready to serve when delivered. You can bring your food to the Fellowship before service that Sunday, or you can deliver it to the Prado Day Center by 11:45 am. We also need volunteers to provide milk, bread and spread, and fruit.

* Serve: We need three to four volunteers to help serve the noon meal each month.

* Provide funds: If you would like to support our work with a financial contribution, please drop your donation marked for People's Kitchen in the regular offering basket on Sundays.

What Is Served?

The meal we serve is a nutritious, vegetarian meal that consists of:

- Vegetarian Chili

- Potato or other starch

- Mixed vegetables

- Salad

- Bread and butter

- Fruit

- Milk
