Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees consists of nine members (serving three-year terms) elected by the Congregation. Terms are staggered, and no one may serve more than six consecutive years without a hiatus of at least one year. The board acts on behalf of the Congregation’s membership to promote the accomplishment of the Fellowship’s mission and prevent unacceptable activities and conditions with the Fellowship.
The Board will direct, monitor, and inspire the organization through the careful establishment of broad written policies reflecting the Board's values and perspectives about ends to be achieved and means to be avoided. The Board governs with an emphasis on:
1. outward vision rather than internal preoccupation
2. encouragement of diversity in viewpoints
3. strategic leadership more than administrative detail
4. clear distinction of Board and chief executive roles
5. collective rather than individual decisions
6. future rather than past or present
7. proactivity rather than reactivity.
Through policy governance, the Board can focus on long-range vision, and the staff and members are empowered to do the great work of our congregation’s ministry.
Regular Board meetings are held monthly, at least ten times per year. For the information of the Fellowship members who may wish to attend, a notice of the time and place of each Board meeting appears in the newsletter. All Board meetings are open to the Fellowship except during Executive Sessions, which are solely for discussion of confidential issues.
Board Members
Andy Pease, President
Andrea “Andy” Pease is a 4th-generation Unitarian Universalist and has been a member of this congregation for over 10 years. Her day job as an architect is focused on green building and energy efficiency. She lives in San Luis Obispo with her husband, Frank, and daughters Mara and Gen.
Chris Cummings, Vice President
Chris Cummings has lived on the central coast off and on for 27 years; is an attorney with the San Luis Obispo County Public Defender's Office; indulges her love of travel every chance she gets; and feels truly blessed by the wonderful individuals brought together by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Luis Obispo County.
Andrea Brown, Corporate Secretary
Andrea has attended the SLO Unitarian Universalist Fellowship for 7 years and been a member since March 2005. She recently retired from Cal Poly where she was the Department Head in Kinesiology. Andrea has also served the Fellowship as Chair of the Membership Committee, Chair of the Worship Arts Committee, and Coordinator of the Worship Circle. Away from the Fellowship she enjoys yard work, traveling, and water activities - especially sailing, which is also enjoyed by Kylan, her Queensland Heeler.
Mary Jeanne Bonaventure
Mary Jeanne has been a UU for approximately 13 years. Raised in a fundamentalist Christian religion, she is a questioning humanist now.
She works for Social Services, determining eligibility for food stamps, Medi-Cal and cash aid. She interviews families in dire circumstances and helps them apply for assistance. She hopes to see our Fellowship unite, grow and be a beacon in our County, where people are free to question and work for common good.
Joyce Knight
Joyce Knight has been a UU since 1982. She and her husband, Richard, retired to the Central Coast in 2001. Joyce is Relocation (Building Fund) Treasurer. She also coordinates the Edna Garden Gang, and is a member of the Edna Steering Committee.

They have worked and traveled extensively throughout Latin America and Europe.
Susan Stenovec
Susan Stenovec is a life long Unitarian and has been a member of this congregation for 4 years. When her children were young, Susan was an active volunteer in their activities. Now that they're launched, she is branching out and, in addition to serving on the UUFSLO Board of Trustees, Susan is on the Board of the Food Bank Coalition of SLO County and is a member of the Democratic Central Committee. Susan and her husband, Tom, have lived in San Luis Obispo for 21 years.
